INTRODUCTION

The future of learning is becoming increasingly involved in distance learning. Correspondence schools have had some success in the past, but online education has many more advantages. There is no dependence on the delivery of post office mail. Computer literacy and connection to the INTERNET are increasing exponentially. E-mail is only the smallest part of cyber-academia; 24 hour/7 day-a -week up loading and down loading of course material, chat rooms, examinations and grading on demand, audio recordings of lectures, Power Point presentations of slides, and virtual classrooms with live lectures are more and more possible. Academic institutions, universities, colleges, high schools, and even primary schools that do not embrace the innovative concept of e-learning will not advance very far into the new millennium. Other practicing professionals with B.S. or B.A. degrees will be offered instruction leading to advanced degrees (such as M.M.S. or M.Ch.) in their specialties. Partial credit will be given for all prior research and publications in scientific journals.

The American International University represents the result of diligent efforts by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United States, to address the growing demand by physicians, from all over the world, who desired to garner academic credit for the many years of research performed within their respective medical and surgical disciplines. The American International University represents the first cyber-academic institution of its kind to offer M.S. and PhD (D.Sc. optional) degrees in clinical research for licensed health care professionals. Through the increasingly popular concept of the virtual campus, licensed providers of the healing arts can now complete individually designed degree programs without residence requirements or the need to leave their busy practices.

The faculty consists of professors and experts with whom the student might never come in contact or have a chance to study. While “book smarts” are important, the life and worldly experience of the instructor can contribute significantly to the quality of cyber-teaching. Lectures can be easily updated as often as needed. The student may work at his or her own pace. Exams may be taken as each individual enrolled in an e-college course attains readiness. Chat rooms allow direct instructor-student contact and interaction. Textbooks, audio tapes, video tapes, and CD’s may augment assignments.

Cyber-academia directly impacts students in developing countries that struggle to find the funding for construction of lecture halls, libraries, science laboratories, and dormitories. Investments in hardware and software, INTERNET access, and teaching computer literacy cost far less. Skilled faculty become available without the need for lengthy training of indigenous personnel or immigration of foreign nationals.

American International University is incorporated as an educational entity in the United States and in West Africa where the headquarter is located.  American International University is also the licensee of the American University.
